Cookery

Our new cookery classroom is OPEN

On the 14th of March 2016 we officially opened the Sugar C Cookery classroom.

In June 2015 the Musikili grade 7 class took on an Outreach challenge of walking 55kms in two days and managed to raise K25 150.   We decided that this money would go towards our new cookery classroom. After many months of designing creating and hard work the classroom is finished and ready to go.

A group of Mazabuka ladies Ceri, Paola, Emma, Terry and Charmaine along with Patrick opened the cookery classroom by taking four children from the Flamboyant school and teaching them to bake. Ceri and Emma teamed up with Mercy who is 18 and in grade 4. They taught her how to make the flap jack batter and then cook the flap jacks, which she thoroughly enjoyed and managed to make a big tray of them coated in butter and syrup.

Paola and Terry teamed up with Sanista who is 18 and in grade 3. She absolutely loves cooking especially the tasting along the way! Paola and Terry had fun teaching Sanista how to bake a jam tart. She was so proud of herself at the end of the morning showing everyone her beautiful jam tarts.

Patrick worked with Audrey who is 14 and in grade 4 and who is deaf. They made fritters which Audrey loved doing and at the end of the morning she announced that she was going home to make fritters and to sell them.

Charmaine worked with Lwendu age 15 in grade 4 they made two batches of biscuits which proved to be a shaky start but the final batch of biscuits were delicious.

After a great morning of baking Mercy, Sanista, Lwendu and Audrey were smiling from ear to ear and couldn’t stop talking about their cooking experience in the new Sugar C classroom. Although this was only a morning it was a life changing event as these four girls have started their cookery skills training.

We hope to continue with mornings like these to allow the ladies to enjoy time with these special children and for the children to learn new recipes and cooking skills from the ladies.

Each week we will be doing a cookery class at the Flamboyant school and slowly introducing new children to the programme.

If anyone would like to come along and do a cookery lesson or join in on a lesson please contact us.
